Former Tennessee Tech men’s basketball and tennis head coach Connie Inman being remembered Friday.
Inman led the men’s basketball program for seven seasons between 1969 and 1976. Inman also coached the tennis team for two years and served as an assistant basketball coach during the 1967-1968 Ohio Valley Conference tournament championship season.
Inman passed away last week. Memorial services took place Friday.
“The thing I learned from Coach Inman is that it’s not just about the X’s and O’s, it’s about how you treat people and how you get the best out of them,” Dan Furlong said. “I learned how to mold a team and how each person fits a role. It’s about each individual person.”
Inman finished his basketball coaching career with a 79-94 record and multiple top-four finishes in the OVC. Inman coached several athletes who reached the professional level, including Tennessee Tech Sports Hall of Fame inductees Wayne Pack and Frank Jones.
Inman advocated for aggressive basketball based on his experience at Miami (Ohio) where he earned two degrees. The press release said he worked as a physical education instructor and high school coach in Ohio before moving to Cookeville in 1965.
Inman transitioned into the insurance business with his wife after his coaching career ended in 1976 and worked there until 2010. Inman remained an active outdoorsman who frequently traveled to the Canadian wilderness for fishing trips.
