McMinnville VA Clinic To Remain Open, Reversing Fed Decision

The McMinnville VA clinic will remain open following discussions between federal lawmakers and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Congressman Scott DesJarlais said the decision came in coordination with VA Secretary Doug Collins. The facility was previously scheduled to close on May 31 due to staffing challenges and a lack of providers in the area.

Veterans and local leaders raised concerns about the closure during a public meeting in Warren County in March. Attendees worried about elderly and disabled veterans facing longer drives to clinics in Tullahoma and Cookeville.

DesJarlais thanked his staff, Warren County Executive Terry Bell and members of the Tennessee congressional delegation for working toward a solution.

“The VA has been focused on ensuring our Nation’s heroes get the best care possible that meet their needs and expectations,” DesJarlais said.

The initial decision to close the clinic stemmed from difficulties in securing medical professionals for the region. Tennessee Valley Healthcare System staff will notify patients who receive care at the clinic with updated details about the facility remaining open.
