The Tennessee Board of Regents appointed Timothy Smith as the next president of the TCAT Oneida/Huntsville during a special called meeting Thursday.
Smith currently serves as the vice president of the college and is expected to assume his new presidential duties in June. TCAT Oneida/Huntsville will open its new campus in Jamestown in connection with Roane State later this year.
Smith will succeed President Dwight Murphy, who is retiring this summer after leading the institution for nearly two decades.
“I would like to offer my sincere thanks to the Board of Regents and Chancellor Tydings for the honor of serving as a TCAT president,” Smith said.
Smith joined the college in 2007 as a high school liaison and guidance counselor. He has served in various roles at both the Oneida/Huntsville and Jacksboro campuses, including a stint as vice president at Jacksboro. He holds Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in Elementary Education from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
“I am excited to continue working with the faculty and staff at TCAT Oneida/Huntsville to provide affordable training and workforce development for our area,” Smith said.
Murphy has served as the president of the college since January 1, 2006. The search process to find his replacement began in December when the Regents approved criteria for the position.
