A 7-month-old boy died after authorities found the infant unresponsive in a vehicle outside the Monterey Public Library.
The Monterey Police Department said multiple agencies responded to a dispatch call about an unconscious child at around 3:58 p.m. Wednesday. First responders made efforts to revive the infant at the scene.
The Putnam County District Attorney said the infant later died.
It is unclear how long the child was in the vehicle before personnel arrived. The infant is expected to be autopsied Thursday.

Multiple agencies assisted in the emergency response. These included Monterey Fire, Putnam County EMS, the Putnam County Rescue Squad and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
Law enforcement officials said the investigation is ongoing.
Both the Monterey Police Department and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incident. As of publication, it is unclear if any criminal charges will be filed in connection with the case.
