District Attorney Bryant Dunaway said Shari Tayloe has been appointed as the outside prosecutor to lead the investigation into Putnam County Mayoral Candidate Wayne Nabors.
Dunaway requested the appointment after recusing his office from the case. Dunaway stepped away from the probe because of his long-standing relationship with Nabors and a personal donation made to a political opponent of Nabors.
The request for an outside prosecutor was submitted to the District Attorney Conference’s Administrative Office in Nashville. Dunaway said the administrative office contacts a district attorney in another district to determine if they will accept the case.
Tayloe is the District Attorney General for the 10th Judicial District.
The investigation centers on whether Nabors pressured workers in the clerk’s office to help with his campaign for mayor. State investigators found election campaign materials at the office. Several workers said they felt as if they were being punished for not supporting the election work.
