DeKalb Tigers Baseball Looks To Take Next Step By Consistency

As the calendar flips to April, the DeKalb County Tigers baseball team is looking to string wins together in the second half of the season.

Under head coach Tad Webb, the Tigers have shown flashes of promise early in the 2026 season, but Webb said inconsistency has kept the team from fully putting things together.

“We’ve had our bumps. We’ve had our letdowns and some of our fundamentals have been up and down and that defensively fundamentals is kind of where we’ve been up and down at times,” Webb said. “We’ll make some great plays and then we’ll have some simple blunders that, it’s the routine stuff that we’ve got to clean up.”

Webb said a key focus for him has been development, especially on the mound.

“Our main guys that’s been throwing those Monday, Tuesday games just continuing to improve their game and work on their craft on their pitching locations, cut down on walks, and being more consistent with that,” Webb said. “And if they cut down on walks, they’re gonna put it in play. Our defense is going to have to step up and make more plays.”

Webb said that connection between pitching and defense has been central to the Tigers’ early-season identity. Webb said limiting free passes and forcing contact could allow DeKalb County to settle into a rhythm, but only if the defense behind them becomes more reliable.

With a roster that features a mix of experienced players and developing underclassmen, Webb said he believes growth is happening, even if the results are not fully there yet.

“I’m not going to single out just one player that has done that because I feel I’ve got several that have [done well,]” Webb said. “We’re not where we want to be yet but they’re continuing to work, continuing to push to get better.”

Webb said that steady, team-wide progress is what he hopes will translate into results as district play approaches. Webb said if DeKalb County can clean up routine mistakes and find consistency on both sides of the ball, the flashes they have shown could turn into something more complete as the stretch run begins.
