Livingston Academy boys basketball player Carter Harris has found himself in a new position this season, not just on the court, but as the voice guiding a young Wildcats squad.
“I have a role on this team,” Harris said. “For this year at least, it’s to be the leader and it’s just a great opportunity and I’m excited for this year and how we’ve been doing is just a step-by-step process.”
Now a junior, Harris enters the season as the only upperclassman on Livingston Academy’s roster, a sudden shift that has pushed him into a leadership role earlier than expected. While the responsibility came quickly, Harris said he has handled the transition well.
“I feel I could do a lot more,” Harris said. “But I think for the sudden change going on, I think I’ve done pretty well.”
That growth has shown itself on both ends of the floor. Harris is currently averaging career highs in minutes per game, becoming a steady presence for the Wildcats, while also posting career-best numbers in steals per game, anchoring Livingston Academy’s defensive effort.
The Wildcats have faced no shortage of challenges early in the season, especially on the defensive end against teams with aggressive guards.
“All of the teams [we face] have elite defenders,” Harris said. “They can drive in at any given will but that’s all they have similar [to each other.]”
Harris said the focus has remained on consistency and progression, not just for himself, but for a team learning on the fly.
As Livingston Academy continues to navigate the season, Harris’ leadership, defensive presence and willingness to embrace his role have become key building blocks in the Wildcats’ step-by-step development.
