Gainesboro Aldermen Award Bid For Stormwater Project

Gainesboro Aldermen have awarded an estimated $176,000 bid to improve drainage around Gainesboro Elementary.

Consulting Engineer Jonathan Zadick said the project will install an estimated 1,000 linear feet of reinforced concrete storm sewer piping along Gibson Avenue. Zadick said the project will improve stormwater drainage.

“We are trying to improve the flooding that’s going on around the elementary school a little bit,” Zadick said. “So the goal is to alleviate some of the flooding issue that happens right over there at the intersection of Gibson next ot the elementary school.”

Zadick said there is no stormwater infrastructure along Gibson Avenue currently, making it a typical flooding zone during heavy rainstorms. Zadick said the project should be completed before the town’s ARP grant expires in September.

“We would like for them to start within the next few weeks, and then it’s a short project, so 90 days at the most should be the timeline of construction,” Zadick said.

The bid was awarded to West Farms and Constrcution who were the second lowest bidder. Zadick said legally, the lowest bid could not be accepted.

“The low bidder, they had an error that made their submission unresponsive, so that required actually moving to the West Farms contractor, who was only actually $3,000 higher,” Zadick said. “Gainesboro has worked with West Farms before, and they were satisfied with those results.”
