Putnam County Sheriff Eddie Farris remembering the life and service of Lieutenant Randy Brown, honoring his dedication and lasting impact on the department.
Brown passed away unexpectedly Wednesday during a major medical procedure. Brown served Putnam County for 30 years.
“Not only a really good deputy for Putnam County, but he was a good person and had been a friend for a long, long time,” Farris said. “Randy was a little bit older than me, but we sort of grew up together, and Randy was just one of those good guys.”
Farris said Brown had a contagious sense of humor and was someone people naturally enjoyed being around. He said Brown will be remembered for the impact he made on countless students in the Putnam County School System while serving as a school resource officer.
“We posted the picture yesterday, which was obviously a professional picture of Randy in his uniform, but I have already seen others while he was an SRO posted on social media with him playing with kids and jumping rope, and laughing, and playing, and that is truly Randy Brown,” Farris said. “That is him at his best.”
Farris said his deputies are heartbroken over Brown’s passing. He said his office sends its condolences to Brown’s family.
“We’ll dig down and get together and work together to do whatever we can to help the family,” Farris said. “That’s what we do, and so we will certainly do that, and it’s just a tough time.”
Farris said Brown also served as a corrections officer and deputy before becoming a lieutenant. Farris said no matter the role, Brown well represented the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. Farris said Brown will have a lasting impact on his office and will be deeply missed.
Brown passed away at the age of 64.
