Baxter Officials Approve Payment Upgrade Needs Thursday

Baxter officials approved upgrades to the water department’s payment system Thursday to address equipment malfunctions and improve security for after-hours deposits.

City Recorder Sharon Carlile advised the board that the current transaction drawer is no longer operating correctly. She said that the issues are internal to the mechanism rather than just a problem with vehicle access.

“But it’s got an 18-inch drawer that will go out, and they said it’s for curved drive-throughs, so it will work better than what we have,” Carlile said.

Council Member Greg Phillips said the unit was a used donation installed in 2009.

The board approved a quote of $4,275 for the replacement drawer, while also agreeing to upgrade the night deposit system which currently empties into a plastic container.

“Yeah, ours now is, is not going into a safe, and we feel like it would be more secure going into a safe,” Mayor Danny Holmes said.

A resident suggested cutting back the curb to improve vehicle access to the window. Carlile explained that the new unit is designed to address reach issues common with curved driveways.

In other business, the board voted to apply for a Community Development Block Grant for park improvements.

“We’re hoping to improve our park, and, we’re hoping that, we can get this grant,” Holmes said.

The board also approved a nine-month certificate of deposit renewal at a rate of 3.9 percent.
