State Of Emergency Declared In Celina And Clay County

A state of emergency has been declared in both Celina and Clay County as crews continue working to restore power after recent impacts across the area.

Tri-County Electric reports that about 2,500 customers are still without electricity. City and county officials say emergency declarations were issued to help coordinate response efforts and support affected residents. Officials are also urging people to check on neighbors, especially the elderly and others who may be vulnerable.

For residents without power, three shelters are now open and providing food, warmth, and basic supplies. Those shelters are located at the Celina City Hall basement, the Clay County Rescue Squad building, and the Mount Vernon Fire Department in Red Boiling Springs.

Anyone who needs transportation to a shelter can contact Clay County Dispatch using the non-emergency numbers provided by officials (931) 243-3266 or (931) 243-3267.

Meanwhile, leaders say a request for water assistance has been submitted at the state level for residents without water service. Once water resources arrive, pickup details will be shared through Reverse 911 and official communication channels.

Officials are encouraging residents to use available resources and remain patient as restoration efforts continue.
