Tennessee Tech Athletics is attempting to maximize revenue after signing a multi-year agreement with a sports marketing company called Taymar.
Tennessee Tech Athletic Director Casey Fox said he felt it would be better to have a corporate partner handle the university’s corporate media rights, marketing, and sales rather than handling those duties in-house. Fox said he has set a focus on maximizing revenue for the athletic department.
“You know, driving revenue will just allow us to reinvest back into our programs to get to the point where we want to be, and that’s competing for conference championships and hopefully getting into the NCAA tournament and competing on the national level as well,” Fox said.
Fox said Taymar will have two positions in the university’s athletic department to solely focus on marketing and ticket sales. Fox said Taymar has more resources than the university to boost revenue.
“They educate their folks on new practices, best practices, you know, more than even if we had a dedicated person in-house, they would not have the expertise that Taymar as a company is going to provide,” Fox said. “With their resources, it just made more sense and more of a better setup than trying to do it in-house.”
Fox said Taymar has proven to have a great track record with other universities, like Tennessee State and the University of Kentucky.
“I’m excited about it,” Fox said. “You know, instead of a revenue share, we are paying an up-front fee, but all revenues are kept by us. So we have goals that we want to hit, and we have worked with Taymar on setting those goals, but we are excited about it. Excited, you know, in hearing the excitement from other schools and how they are working with Taymar as a partner.”
Fox said this partnership is another step forward in growing and preparing to join the Southern Conference. Taymar is based out of North Carolina.
