Potential Four-Way Stop For RC Buck And Quinland Lake

Algood City Council is looking into installing a four-way stop at the intersection of Quinland Lake Road and RC Buck Drive.

Currently, the intersection has stop signs on RC Buck Drive, but is a through street on Quinland. City Administrator Keith Morrison said Council Member Ruby Hawkins had brought the proposal forward.

“She had several concerned citizens that were worried that they had been about run over a couple of times in that area due to having to pull out so far to see,” Morrison said. “So they’re concerned that it should be a four-way stop instead of a through street with two stops.”

Morrison said a fence, among other things, is contributing to the sight visibility issues at the intersection. The council approved performing a traffic study on the intersection.

“I went through and sure on MUTCD (Manual on Traffic Control Devices) Standard, we couldn’t just do this,” Morrison said. “It does require either a traffic study or an engineering judgement to place a four-way stop there to limit liability on the city.”

Morrison said if the city were to install the four-way stop, additional signage would be needed. Council asked how much the traffic study would cost. Morrison said he expects the study to cost somewhere around $2,000 – $5,000.
