The Putnam County Emergency Communications District Board will purchase a new security video server.
Putnam County 911 Assistant Director Josh Womack said the server holds storage for over 140 security cameras installed across many county buildings. Womack said growth in the county has led to the county needing more cameras, and the current server cannot keep up.
“We’ve just reached capacity, we can’t add any more cameras to it, and keep the video where we can go back and review it if something happened, you know, at one of these places,” Womack said. “So we are just having to upgrade.”
Womack said the cost of the new server is an estimated $40,000. Womack said the new server will also provide additional storage.
“The more we add, the more storage we are going to need, so this gives us future growth as well,” Womack said. “And the way servers go, three to four years is about all you are gonna get out of one, so this will give us some for the next few years.”
