White County Setting Up Temporary Convenience Center

White County is setting up a temporary convenience center, after closing the center located at the landfill.

White County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said he is looking to relocate the convenience center a couple of tenths of a mile northeast of its current location. Robinson said the county will set up a temporary site at the new location to relieve the stress caused by the closure.

“We will put up a temporary operation while we build out the new, more modern convenience center site that will end up being the standard that we are going to do across the county,” Robinson said.

Robinson said the county is also looking at extending the hours for convenience centers across the county as well. The temporary site will be set up once the county receives its permit to move the site.

Robinson said the county has had to resubmit permit applications due to Waste Management now owning the property for the proposed site.

“We had to go back and get a bonified lease showing that Waste Management was leasing this property to White County so that we could put a convenience center on it,” Robinson said. “And we got all that submitted. Everything is good to go now, just waiting on the thumbs up from the state.”

Robinson said sometimes the permit process can take months to complete. However, Robinson said he feels like this permit should not take as long.

“It’s already located on a site where a landfill is permitted,” Robinson said. “So we feel like it’s going to be a pretty simple process. All your environementals have already been done, so we are way down the road with that.”

Robinson said he is unsure of when the county expects to hear back about the permit. Robinson said he has talked with TDEC, and they have assured him they will try to provide the permit as fast as possible.
