The Tennessee Society Daughters of the American Revolution appointed Cookeville native Carol Teeters as the 53rd State Regent.

Teeters said a state regent takes on a presidential role, taking charge of activities at the state level. Teeters said she appoints all of the state chairs and vice chairs on many committees. Teeters said she oversees the work of the state society and every state chapter. Teeters said women 18 years or older related to patriots are welcome members. Teeters said the organization aims to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Teeters said her mother was a DAR member, introducing her to the organization at a young age.

“So I sort of grew up knowing what DAR is, knowing what DAR does,” Teeters said. “So when I turned 21 years old, I was happy to sign the paperwork to become a member and start my own journey in DAR.”

Teeters said she earned her position after long-time service with the state society. Teeters said her previous roles were essential training for her current job. Teeters said in order earn the title State Regent, a member must be elected and serve as State Second Vice Regent, State First Vice Regent, then the member can run for State Regent.

“Each term is three years, so when you accept the office of State Second Vice Regent,” Teeters said. “It’s with the understanding that you will eventually be moving into the position of State Regent.”

Teeters said the society works with veterans, supporting honor flights. Teeters said each year the organization awards DAR Good Citizen Medals to high school children across the state and provide several essay contests. Teeters said the organization provides over $20,000 in scholarships every year.
