Small Boat Dock Coming To Granville’s Veterans Park

Jackson County received a nearly $80,000 grant from the Tennessee Department of Tourism to build a small boat dock and fishing pier at Veterans Park in Historic Granville.

Historic Granville Board Member John Deane said the county is making efforts to boost tourism throughout the county, and this project is just another addition to those efforts. Deane said the boat dock would give a place for boaters on the Cumberland River to stop in Granville.

“Two boaters could tie up to the dock and enjoy all that Historic Granville has to offer and then boat their way back home,” Deane said. “We envision that most of those boaters will be coming from Wildwood Resort and Marina.”

Deane said the fishing pier will provide a safe space for families to fish. Deane said the grant was used for Granville because it has earned a reputation for being a great steward of state assets.

“They have been able to efficiently put those dollars to work for the purpose of expanding tourism in Jackson County,” Deane said. “And so I think the authorities in the state government, particularly in the Department of Tourism, look favorably on Granville as a good investment.”

Deane said it was crucial to receive the grant for the project.

“We would not be doing this without the benefit of the grant,” Deane said. “There were insufficient dollars and the wherewithal of Historic Granville to pull this off.”

Deane said the next step is to get approval from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Deane said the project will need approval from the United States Army Corps of Engineers since they own the waterfront at Veterans Park. Deane said the Historic Granville Board has been told by the Corps of Engineers that they can expect approval by March of 2026.
