Gainesboro Aldermen have approved a water plan that will provide city water to a developing subdivision in the Jennings Creek area.
The development is a 16-parcel subdivision that is being built by the RidgeRunners. RidgeRunner CEO Josh Abbotoy said the water plan is essentially an extension of the city’s water system.
“You know, we had to go work with engineers, you know, design everything to city spec and a way that is also acceptable to the city’s engineers, and you know, maintains the pressure and all the other goals that the city has,” Abbotoy said.
Abbotoy said now the plans will be sent to TDEC for approval before the waterline extension can be installed. Abbotoy said having access to city water will further the development of the subdivision.
“With the completion of water, we are now nearing the end of the development process on those parcels, and we will be ready to sell them,” Abbotoy said.
Abbotoy said having access to city water will make the parcels more desirable.
“Typically, buyers are gonna want city water before they want to buy land, right,” Abbotoy said. “So you know, occasionally, you will get consumers in rural areas who are okay with wells and such, but typically, homebuyers want city water because of the predictability and the stability it brings.”
Abbotoy said he is looking forward to completing the subdivision and contributing to the county.
“Hopefully you know, add to the county’s economic base, add to their tax base, and live and spend their money here in Jackson County,” Abbotoy said. “We hope that it’s in a small way, that it’s a small boom to the local economy.”
In other business, the aldermen approved hiring Nathan Netherton full-time for the streets department.
The aldermen approved appreciation checks for the Volunteer Fire Department.
Employee Christmas bonuses were also approved.
The city approved to complete a survey on property owned by the city regarding the retaining wall by the old Wiggins Building on South Main Street.
