White County Warriorettes Lean On Depth, Experience

After a 32-win campaign that featured a deep tournament run, the White County Warriorettes girls basketball team enter the new season with confidence and a roster hungry for more.

White County Head Coach Michael Dodgen said the offseason has shown the program’s strength beyond its established veterans.

“They’ve gone really well,” Dodgen said. “We’ve had two young ladies in Sarah Winfree and Kylee Norris that I think have really stepped their game up and really been a big positive boost for us and for our team that, they’re two kids that play hard and are going to get some minutes.”

White County returns a core group with significant experience. Six seniors return, all of whom have helped White County amass over 60 combined wins over the previous two seasons. Dodgen said that experience is creating opportunities for more Warriorettes to earn their way into the rotation.

“We got a lot of experience coming back,” Dodgen said. “It’s allowing some kids that may not have gotten an opportunity to step on the floor and see what they can do.”

Dodgen said building depth early is important even with the returning seniors. Dodgen said the goal is another postseason run. White County finished last season ranked number three in Division 3A statewide and number nine overall, and extended its home winning streak into the postseason.

“It’s a catch-22,” Dodgen said. “We have some bad moments but then we have some really good moments, so we’re trying to build some depth so in case you have an injury or somebody gets sick, you have somebody that can step right in.”

Dodgen said junior Miah Swindell has also developed throughout the summer, whose strides have been noticed by the coaching staff.

With veteran leadership at the top of the lineup and several rising players battling for roles, the Warriorettes look to return to Murfreesboro for the second consecutive season.
