Jackson County will rename the bridge spanning Long Branch Road on Highway 262 in Gainesboro after former County Mayor John Cason.
Cason served the citizens of Jackson County for over three decades, including 24 years as a county commissioner and four years as the county mayor from 2010-2014. Cason’s Sister, Cherry Ramsey, said Cason lived in that community and felt like it was a great way to honor him.
“He was just a very outgoing, loving person, and he loved the county,” Ramsey said. “He was on the county commission for 20 years, budget committee, knew all the ins and outs of Jackson County. Was mayor for four years and just loved the county.”
The name of the bridge will be called John Cason Memorial Bridge. Ramsey said renaming the bridge after Cason means a lot to her.
“That’s just a very great honor, I think,” Ramsey said. “It’s just very touching to see that on the bridge.”
Ramsey said she proposed the idea to rename the bridge to Senator Paul Bailey, and that he was very accepting of it. Ramsey said the resolution will now be sent ot the state for approval.
Cason passed away on July 7, 2022, at the age of 58. Cason leaves behind a legacy of his dedication to public service and community leadership.
