Crossville Rec Center Progressing, Anticipation Building

Construction on Crossville’s new recreation center is steadily progressing, with large steel beams now rising from the foundation.

Putnam County YMCA CEO Mandy Perhay said the steel gives the community a first look at the structure of the new facility. While much work remains, Perhay said it shows the community what is coming.

“For the Y there, it’s gonna be amazing,” Perhay said. “I mean, we are starting to get more phone calls about it, and so I think the community is really getting excited that they can see the progress of it. And you know, we just hope construction continues on time, that way we can open up and be ready to serve.”

Perhay said construction is expected to be completed in November or December of 2026, with March 2027 being the tentative opening date for the facility. Perhay said the rec center will be a state-of-the-art facility that will serve the community for years to come.

“It’s gonna have some pickleball, it’s gonna have a basketball court, it’s gonna have a MAC gym, which is just a multi-use gym,” Perhay said. “It’s gonna have a group fitness space as well as a wonderful, beautiful wellness center. We are gonna have rooms for non-profits to meet in, we’ll have child care on site for parents while they are working out, a beautiful pool that we will now be able to have a swim team here in Cumberland County.”

Perhay said the Putnam County YMCA will be operating the facility, essentially creating a second branch. Perhay said the facility allows the YMCA to expand its footprint while serving the Crossville community.

“Expanding that footprint is going to be amazing,” Perhay said.” Just you know, to keep people healthy, to keep them active, we know that extends our life and makes our quality of life significantly better, so to be able to do that in a new community, it’s just, I mean, it’s just amazing.”

Perhay said construction has gone smoothly and the project has not run into any issues.
