Cumberland Negotiating EMS/Fire Services With Flatrock

Cumberland County Mayor Allen Foster is currently in negotiations to provide EMS and fire services at the Flatrock Motorsports Park.

Foster said Flatrock Motor Club approached the county about providing those services in that area. Foster said the idea is that Flatrock would provide fire trucks, and the county would provide an ambulance and a few brush trucks. Foster said if an agreement is reached, it would be a win-win.

“It would provide extra stations and extra places of operation for us to be,” Foster said. “Any of the trucks or any of the services that are provided out there would be able to leave the grounds and go to any other emergency call as well. So it’s just a good way of getting more service to a fairly remote area.”

Foster said the county will charge Flatrock for providing the personnel. Foster said providing EMS and fire services to Flatrock would expand the county’s services.

“We have some spare trucks, but this will add additional service,” Foster said. “It will not move a truck from one place to another at all.”

Foster said many details of the potential agreement are still left to be determined as negotiations are still ongoing. Foster said the main purpose of this negotiation is not about serving Flatrock but about serving the people.

“Flatrock is extremely important, just like everyone else, but there will be times when there are lots and lots of people out there,” Foster said. “But this is really just about getting a station in an area that could use more service.”

The Cumberland County Commission approved a resolution to authorize Foster to begin the negotiations.
