Jackson County will install a memorial bench at the Courthouse to honor former County Mayor Randy Heady.
The bench request came from Randy Heady’s Wife, Joyce Heady. Joyce Heady said the bench would not only honor Randy but also have an extra meaning to who Randy was.
“It was important to him, to my husband Randy, the mayor, to have people come and have that open door policy,” Joyce Heady said. “So having a bench there for him would mean a lot, and it would also be a place for people to sit.”
Joyce Heady said it will be a stone or granite bench and will be similar to the memorial benches in Granville. Joyce Heady said she would cover the cost of the bench. Joyce Heady said she also plans to install another bench honoring Randy Heady in Granville.
“That is a historical town, and I would love to have a bench there in memory of him because we have a whole lot of visitors, and I just want to honor him,” Joyce Heady said.
Joyce Heady said having a bench honoring her late husband means the world to her.
“He was a commissioner of this county for eight years, he was the mayor for six years, and he was planning to run for three terms had he lived,” Joyce Heady said. “So just knowing my pride in him, my love for him, and being able to put that out there to the people of the community and the other people coming in, just to know how proud I was of him and his work here.”
The commission approved the request unanimously. Final details of the bench will have to be approved by County Mayor Jim Morgan.
