Special Wednesday Movie Event Raises Money For BARK

McMinnville’s Three Star Cinemas going to the dogs this week, with a special movie showing to benefit BARK Animal Rescue in McMinnville.

BARK’s Brandy King said “The Lost Boys” is a family-friendly movie that’s perfect for the week. She said she hopes the community will support the fun event.

“We never try to put a price on anything,” King said. “We know that times are extremely difficult for people, especially in the rescue business. In the past, we have earned up to $600.00, which is amazing, but we’re always very gracious with anything that we get.”

King said the no-kill shelter takes in animals from other shelters as well as surrenders from surrounding counties, and animals that have been rescued from hoarding and abuse cases. The shelter tries to limit itself to no more than 10 dogs at a time, but King said they are currently housing 11 dogs.

Once the dogs have come into BARK’s facility, King said the costs begin to add up.

“They get fully vetted, shots, fixed, they see the groomers…we are an open, home-based and so they live with us personally,” King said. “They are not caged or kenneled. They’re mirco-chipped.”

King said the average cost can run anywhere from $150.00 to $1000, depending upon the actual animal and its individual needs.

King said “The Lost Boys” is one of her favorite movies. The movie will shown Wednesday at 6pm and the cost is a $5.00 donation to BARK.
