Overton Senior Center Renovations Done, Reopen Soon

The Overton County Senior Center is expected to reopen with an open house event next week, as renovations are finished

Overton County Senior Center Director Michael Deaver said the renovations included new bathrooms, ceilings, floors, and lighting. Deaver said she was glad to see the renovations get completed.

“I would just like to thank everybody for their patience,” Deaver said. “And this is gonna be a wonderful, warm environment for our senior adults, and there are many things in the works.”

Deaver said she does have a full calendar of activities scheduled once the Senior Center reopens. Deaver said meals will not be provided for the first few weeks upon reopening.

“We are not gonna be up and running and begin cooking meals, because I’m in the process of hiring some more staff and getting them trained,” Deaver said. “So it’s gonna be a soft opening and then we’ll gradually offer more services throughout November.”

Deaver said the senior center has been meeting at the Overton County Health and Rehab Center for the past month and a half. Deaver said many seniors are excited to move back to the senior center.

“They cannot wait,” Deaver said. “I’ve built it up for them, and this core group that has been coming, they are just a joy to be around, and I already consider them family. And they are a very positive group, and they want others to join. They are excited to have more people to share this experience with.”

Deaver said from survey results she collected, many seniors want to go on trips. Deaver said she is working to make those trips happen.

The open house for the newly renovated Senior Center will take place on November 4, from 11am-1pm.
