Algood City Council is considering rejecting a second round of bids to repair the roof on top of the city’s Public Works Shop.
The project consisted of re-leveling the roof and improving drainage. The council rejected bids a month ago because the lone bidder did not include replacing the gutters and downspouts. City Administrator Keith Morrison recommended that the council reject the bids again after having a discussion with a roof expert.
“He gave me some indication that he felt like this was not the best route for us to go,” Morrison said. “He had indicated that with the roof being rusty and some issues there, that if it was not properly repaired or sealed, which would cost you more money, this would not last.”
The lone bid the city received was an estimated $42,000 for rubber roofing installation and screws. Morrison said he thinks replacing the whole roof might be the best path forward.
“I think we can do the total roof replacement for less than $60,000,” Morrison said. “So my recommendation is to reject this, and we will rebid it for a roof replacement cause I think we are just wasting money if we continue with this route.”
