Stone Memorial Panthers basketball player Hunter Haney looks to become a leader for the team.
Haney will be one of the three seniors for the Panthers this season. Haney said the team lost a lot last season. Haney said the team never lost its focus throughout the year.
“We just played well together,” Haney said. “I mean, we all were good friends, like we would hang out, it wasn’t all the seniors hanging out and all the juniors, it was seniors hanging out with freshmen and sophomores and we just had like a really close team bond that not a lot of teams had.”
Haney said the team used that chemistry and thrived off that. Stone Memorial was eliminated in the regional playoffs last season. Haney said he looks to fill the role needed from him this season.
“I just want to be able to lead our team and make a deep playoff run,” Haney said. “That is something I didn’t get to achieve here. That really has been my focus on where I want to get with this team.”
Haney said this season is extra special for him.
“Every game to me is going to be very important,” Haney said. “I want to go home knowing I won at this place or won at that place so every game, every district game, I’m not going to take it for granted.”
Haney also plays football for the Panthers. Haney said he practices for both football and basketball as often as he can. Haney will enter his second year playing multiple sports.
Haney looks to take Stone Memorial to their first trip to Murfreesboro since the 2021 season.
