Cookeville will move forward with electrical upgrades needed at City Hall this spring, after approving the purchase of new switch gear.
The City Council approved changes to the project, as preliminary discussions predicted three days of no power for city hall. City Manager James Mills said he now expects the new project plan to take two days to complete. Mills said he is thankful the project is confined to a weekend.
“I would want to note, a note of thanks to Carl Haynie, our electric or energy director,” Mills said. “He did have some discussion if you remember originally, we thought we were going to have to have City Hall close on a Friday, which we were not looking forward to.”
Mills said generators could not be used in place of the switch to power the building while the project is underway.
“This replacement project is a critical issue for the safety of maintenance personnel and the reliability of power here at City Hall,” Mills said.
