First Ever Art in the Park Debuts Saturday

Dogwood Park will be the scene for the first ever Cookeville Art in the Park event.

Cookeville Art Studio and Gallery President Terri Ritter said organizers had originally thought of hosting a different event, before landing on the idea for Art in the Park.

“We were originally doing, thought about an art fair in the Summer, but we realized it was going to be too hot, so it was suggested that maybe we move it in town and we thought ‘what better place than Dogwood Park,’ and put the name out there ‘Art in the Park.” Ritter says “It’s just a beautiful park, and a place to go and enjoy art.”

Artisans from throughout the region will be on hand for the event.

“You’re going to get to see all different kinds of art.” Ritter said “We have 17 different tents that are going to be there, you’ll walk into different vendor’s tents and enjoy their artwork, whether it’s paintings, or jewelry, or ceramics, and appreciate the wonderful artisans we have in our community.”

Ritter said art touches the soul. She said the event also gives children a chance to see different types of art they might enjoy.

“It brings you a sense of joy, a sense of peace,” Ritter said. “I mean, I’ve talked to people that, you know, different businesses, and they, they said when conversation dies, they see people just walking around, looking at paintings, and enjoying what they are looking at.”

Ritter said this is a family event, and will include area set up for children to make their own art.

“I think its really important these days, because we need to see the beauty that’s around us.” Ritter said. “With all the division we have in the world, it’s nice to come together something, and I think we do that over art.”

The event takes place Saturday from 9am until 5pm at Dogwood Park in Cookeville. The event is free to the public.
