Red Bud Village Project Still On Track For Summer Completion

Highland Residential Services Executive Director Chris Cassetty said the Red Bud Village Project is still on track to be completed by next summer.

The $5.4 million project includes some 20 units on Buffalo Valley Road, dedicated to serving homeless populations trying to work their way out of poverty. Cassetty said constant rainfall slowed progress early on in the project.

“I still feel good that we are gonna get done in a timely manner,” Cassetty said. “You know, anytime you start doing contracting, you start building new developments, it always seems like, you know, it always takes a little longer than you thought it was going to take, and it always costs a little more than you thought it was gonna cost.”

Cassetty said groundwork is almost completed, and the next step in the project will be vertical construction. Cassetty said the goal is to have the project progress enough that winter weather will not impact the project as much.

“We had hoped that the contractor would be dried in for winter weather,” Cassetty said. “They are not quite there yet, but hopefully, maybe they can get there, but we are still looking for some time next summer or certainly next fall to be done and moving people in.”

Cassetty said Red Bud Village is an important development to the community. On the other hand, Cassetty said 20 units are not enough.

“That’s why we are trying to build Magnolia Ridge and other developments,” Cassetty said. “Affordable housing is and has been a huge issue for our community, and I don’t think that’s an issue that is going away anytime soon, and so we are trying to do our part to help all we can.”

Construction on Red Bud Village began in late June.
