31st Judicial District Attorney Christopher Stanford has resigned after being indicted and charged with the offense of Reckless Endangerment.
Stanford was indicted in December of 2024 by the DeKalb County Grand Jury for a shots-fired incident that happened in Smithville last November. As part of the resolution to the case, Stanford submitted his resignation letter to Governor Bill Lee.
Stanford’s stated effective resignation date is the end of October. Stanford’s trial is currently set for January 7, 2026, in DeKalb County.
The 31st Judicial District is comprised of Warren and Van Buren Counties.
