Clay County residents can get everything needed for a passport application all in one place, as the Clay County Court Clerk’s Office now offers a passport photo service.
Clay County Court Clerk Keisha Smith said her office has offered passport services for years, but has never offered the photo service before. Smith said Walgreens in Celina closed several months ago and was really the only place to get a passport photo taken in the county.
“We realized that it was taking a toll on our county, so we thought that we would start offering this for our citizens, instead of having them drive out of the county to get a passport photo, they could just come in here and get everything in one stop,” Smith said.
Smith said she is trying to get the message out about the new photo service, as many people may not know about it. Smith said not having a photo was a big problem that residents would often run into in the past.
“For the older people, especially,” Smith said. “They would come down here, and they would have all of that together, and then I was like, oh, you are gonna have to another county and get your passport photo. And so it would take a few days on them, and if you are needing to fly quickly, it could put a burden on your trip.”
Smith said it cost her office around $500 to set up the service. Smith said it was very simple to get started.
“You just have to buy the camera and the printer,” Smith said. “We got ours off of Amazon. Putnam County offers these, so we went over there and they walked us through, and they were very helpful.”
Smith said those who need a passport will need to bring their birth certificate, driver’s license, a check, or a money order. Smith said her office is charging $15 per passport photo.
