Jackson County Schools are taking another step for student safety, purchasing a new visitor management system.
Director of Schools Jason Hardy said the system will scan a visitor’s ID before entering. Hardy said the system immediately provides background information about the visitor.
“If they are on any list or anything that would be a safety concern, or there are any alerts out that these people shouldn’t be in a school, it will notify you,” Hardy said. “Along with just keeping track of people coming out of each school.”
Hardy said each system will cost an estimated $2,000 and will be installed at every school within the school district. Hardy said the school district looks to improve student safety every year.
“We want to do something new every year and upgrade, and this is kind of the year this one kind of fell into the survey of something that was needed,” Hardy said. “So it was a priority for us this year, and you know, we think that our staff and the people that we talked to kind of wanted this, and so we are happy to get it.”
Hardy said the system will be simple to use, and office staff at each school will be trained to use it. Hardy said student safety is the most important thing to Jackson County Schools.
“We can’t provide a learning environment unless we provide a safe environment,” Hardy said. “And so that’s our number one priority each and every day is to keep our students safe and secure.”
Hardy said he expects the systems to be installed and operating sometime in January.
