Monterey’s Board of Aldermen voted to approve a settlement of the Tennessee Riverkeeper lawsuit after a closed-door executive session with the town’s attorney.
The environmental group sued the town for allegedly exceeding sewer discharge limits. The terms of the settlement were not publicly discussed. However, Attorney Evan Wright said the settlement terms are basically the requirements that are already in the town’s wastewater permit.
The board approved the settlement with a 7-1 vote. Alderman Kevin Peters opposed the move.
