Putnam Rebidding Cookeville Softball Hitting Facility

Putnam County Schools has once again elected to rebid the softball hitting facility project at Cookeville High School.

Putnam County Schools Deputy Director Tim Martin said the school board has been trying to pursue the project for a couple of years. Martin said in previous attempts to bid out the project, bids have come in over budget.

“We’ve been working with our architect, and we’ve been talking to some contractors to try to give us some ideas about things that we can change to maybe bring the price down some,” Martin said. “So hopefully, we will be able to get it down to a point where we can afford to actually build the thing.”

Martin said wall structures and roof structures have been tweaked to lower cost. Martin also said the school system is setting up different options and stages for the project to hopefully get a bid within budget.

“Our base bid will just be an open building, and then we will try to, you know, get a price for adding the offices, the dressing rooms, and things like that,” Martin said.

The proposed hitting facility is to be built near the school’s softball field. Martin said the hitting facility is a project that absolutely needs to be done.

“One way or another, we are determined to get a building on the ground, whether it’s got everything in it or not,” Martin said.

Martin said an official date to rebid the project is still unknown. Martin said the school district will put a bid packet together and announce when bids will be accepted.
