Granville’s Fall Celebration Saturday includes a collection of quilts, scarecrows, cornbread and whisky tasting.
Granville Museum President Randall Clemons said the celebration features the community Quilt Festival. The contest has 35 categories and three rankings for each category. Clemons said this marks the 25th celebration of the festival.
“We’ve been having this festival for close to 30 years,” Clemons said. “We began with the quilt festival but we found there was a great need in the Upper Cumberland and Middle Tennessee for a major fall event and we have created that.”
Clemons said the Blues Brokers and the Jazz Alliance Big Band will perform as part of the complimentary Jazz Festival. Clemons said the celebration will include a Cornbread Cook-off, TN Spirits Whiskey Tasting and Mayberry Outdoor Dinner and Theater featuring “The Darling Fortune.”
Festival-goers can enter the Hay Bale Decorating and Scarecrow Decorating Contests, Clemons said, and museums and historic sites will be available for tours. Clemons said local artisans in the Pioneer Village will make apple cider.
Clemons said tourism breathed life back into the historic community of Granville.
“Our community is based off of tourism, and we have about 35,000 guests a year, and our festivals are what have made our tourism”
Clemons said this year will be the largest Quilt Festival the community has seen.
“We have become a quilt town because we have Tennessee Quilt Museum here, and we have an Aunt Bee’s Quilt Shop,” Clemons said. “You know, they teach classes so we are known for quilting.”
The Scarecrow and Artisan’s Festival is one of the largest scarecrow festivals in the state, Clemons said, and will last until the end of the month.
