Upperman Girls Soccer Battling Change In Starting Lineup

The Upperman Bees Girls Soccer Team will enter their second half of the season with a brand new roster.

Only one of the 11 Bees starters is an upperclassman. The other 10 starters on the team include five freshmen and five sophomores. Upperman Head Coach Mixon Moore has utilized a different lineup in every one of Upperman’s seven regular season games.

“I think all those games are important just to give us a little more experience here, a little more experience there and really setting up big things for next year,” Moore said. “We got some big matches coming up and I’m excited in the direction we’re heading, especially if we can get healthy.”

Some of the freshmen replaced Upperman’s juniors or seniors due to season-ending injuries. The Bees saw one of their freshmen score her first goal during their most recent game against Jackson County. Moore said he saw a drastic change between opening night against Smith County to where the team stands now.

“I think their thought process was well, we pass the ball but then eventually I’m faster than the other team so I’ll just outrun them,” Moore said. “You’re not gonna be able to do that here. You’re going to have to work together all the way down the field with small passing and with longer passing, with through balls.”

Upperman has started their second season with Moore as head coach with a 1-6 record. Moore said he looks for the offense to show some fire down the stretch.

“We’re competing the best we can,” Moore said. “I’m excited for the second half of the season here and trying to get some good, positive results in there and see how much we can develop for next year.”

Upperman will continue their second half of the season Thursday as the Bees host Watertown.
