Livingston Wildcats cheerleader Lexi Maxwell began her senior year nominated as one of three captains.
Maxwell stands as one of three seniors on the team and one of two senior captains. Maxwell said being named captain means balancing encouragement with accountability.
“It means to lead the other girls and to give them corrections but also to encourage them and keep the team organized,” Maxwell said. “And me and my other two captains, I think we do pretty good at that.”
Maxwell stands as one of the Wildcat bases. Her job consists of lifting up her assigned flyer and catching her. Maxwell said the base can become important due to strength and timing.
“Me and my other two bases, we work as a group, and one of my captains is another flyer,” Maxwell said. “And we’re pretty proud of our group.”
Maxwell said she looks to entertain the crowd during every performance. This includes familiar songs for the Wildcat faithful.
“They might see our dances that we do, like Shake It Off or Crazy Train,” Maxwell said. “Most of our dances will end and we’ll go into stunt routines. So it just depends.”
Maxwell has trained to perform those songs during her four years cheering. Maxwell’s next performance will take place Friday as Livingston faces Pickett County at home.
