Baxter Harvest Festival Features Antique Motorcar Visit

Motorcar enthusiasts will have a great opportunity to see antique vehicles Saturday at the Baxter Harvest Festival.

Baxter Mayor Danny Holmes said the antique cars are part of a group that will be traveling on the Nashville Eastern Railroad as part of the Nashville and Eastern Railroad Excursion. Holmes said this is the first time the group will be visiting Baxter.

“This could actually be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the people that’s watching them come up the track, because I know, I have never seen any of them,” Holmes said.

Holmes said there will be 27 antique cars that are different colors and small. Holmes said Baxter is lucky to have the group stop by.

“Excited that it is our Harvest Festival that they are coming through,” Holmes said. “And hopefully we will have a large crowd, a lot of kids to see, you know, just exactly what they look like.”

Holmes said the antique cars remind him of when the train excursion used to stop by Baxter during the Harvest Festival.

‘We used to have the train excursion come from Nashville to our Harvest Festival, bringing in 500 people,” Holmes said. “They would get off the train. The train would go up around DelMonaco and turn around, and they would be here an hour or two to an hour and a half, and they would eat from the food vendors. And you know, unfortunately, that stopped. But that was a big thing. It was sold out, and so we are hoping to get that back.”

The Baxter Harvest festival will be this Saturday from 10am-4pm and will be located at 216 Broad Street in Baxter. Holmes said the Harvest Festival is always special to the city.

“This is our hometown, this is, you know, we close the city down,” Holmes said. “I know a lot of places don’t do that anymore, but we close everything down for safety, and you can walk around, you know, visit all the vendors.”
