Putnam Election Administrator Retiring, New One Appointed

Putnam County Administrator of Elections Michele Honeycutt will retire in November.

Honeycutt has been the administrator of elections for over five years. Honeycutt said she has worked in the elections office for a long time and felt that it was time to retire.

“I feel like it’s just time to go, I’m getting older, and I have a lot of family here. I have seven grandkids, and I have hobbies that I have not really had time for, and my husband and I want to do trips, so I’m ready,” Honeycutt said.

After Honeycutt’s announcement to retire, the election commission appointed Assistant Jennifer Murphy to be the new administrator. Honeycutt said her decision to retire was tough and believes the county’s elections office will be in good hands under Murphy.

“She is very good,” Honeycutt said. “We have been working with her a lot. I feel like she knows it all. So I don’t feel like I am leaving the county in bad hands.”

Honeycutt said she really enjoyed serving as the administrator of elections for Putnam County.

“I’m glad I had the opportunity to do it,” Honeycutt said. “It’s been an honor, something I really didn’t think I would ever do. But I had a wonderful staff here that backed me, and I feel like Jennifer will also. So I am glad I had this opportunity.”

Honeycutt said she enjoyed election days even though they tended to get hectic. Honeycutt said she also enjoyed meeting and working with people. Honeycutt said the people are what she will miss about her job. Honeycutt will officially retire on November 20.
