Cookeville’s Hicks Leading Lady Cavaliers Into New Era

Cookeville Lady Cavaliers Volleyball Head Coach Logan Hicks made the move from Warrior to Cavalier this summer.

Hicks took over the Cookeville position after teaching and coaching volleyball for the Warriors. Hicks transitioned this season solely to coach volleyball for the Lady Cavaliers.

“We’re still growing together,” Hicks said. “This team has welcomed us with open arms. Ever since I got the job, we started working very hard in June and then after the dead period, we’re starting to mold together and starting to work like a team.”

The Lady Cavaliers have started their season 9-2 under their new head coach. Cookeville remains undefeated in district play. Hicks said despite the good record, he wants to see the Cavaliers stay motivated.

“I never want them to be relaxed,” Hicks said. “No matter what the score is, we don’t get relaxed. We keep the foot down on the pedal, do every little thing correct, and that’s what brings the whole process together.”

Hicks has seen dramatic change since the season began. Hicks lost two of his senior middles before opening night due to knee injuries. One is expected to be out for the season, while another, who went down during warmups opening night, could see her season end depending on test results. Hicks said he has searched in practices and games to find their replacements.

“It’s been a challenge but I think the girls are overcoming it,” Hicks said. “They’ve done really well.”

Hicks started a freshman in the front middle position opening night. Cookeville’s next game will take place Thursday night at LaVergne.
