Algood Tables Decision For Park Project Design Team

Algood City Council tabled a decision Tuesday night to select a lead architect and design team to oversee the city’s park project.

The board discussed two firms that offered similar services. Council Member Luke Hill said he would like to have the two firms present to the board before making a decision.

“We have historically taken a position that we are gonna take bite-sized chunks at this park,” Hill said. “And here we are kind of changing that. We are gonna make a, you know, a big stab at this, and we’ve got to pick the right party. This is kind of a big, a big decision for the park.”

The board approved a motion to have both firms present at next month’s work session. Algood Mayor Lisa Chapman-Fowler said the city needs to a good job of letting the public know about the presentations.

“We really need to hit hard in our advertising this coming month, that if you have an interest about seeing the park developed, then please be here for our October meeting, because it will be front and center to be discussed,” Chapman-Fowler said. “So I will just reach out to everyone to please put it up and advertise as much as you can.”

Other council members echoed Hill’s point that it is a big decision to make. Hill said having a presentation would be another opportunity for the public to get involved.

“We had this session on one of these Saturday mornings a few Saturdays back, where, you know, we invited everybody to come and you know look at the plans, ask questions, you know, get involved,” Hill said. “This is another opportunity for the public to get involved and, you know, hear what we are doing. I just sometimes wonder if we are getting enough of that feedback. You know, we are making ourselves, but just another opportunity for them would be good in my opinion.”

The City Council’s October work session and council meeting were originally set for October 13 and 14. The dates were not ideal, as that is part of Fall Break, and some people may not be in town for the presentations. The council decided to push the work session and council meeting back to October 20 and 21.

In other business, the council approved canceling its November meeting, combining it with December’s meeting.

The council approved to surplus a pallet of alternators, an air compressor, and Ford seats.
