Baxter signing off on the T-DOT I-40 Improvement Project proposal, the next step in moving that project forward.
Baxter Mayor Danny Holmes said signing the proposal essentially lets T-DOT know they are aware of the project and are okay with proceeding.
The estimated $22 million project will create a third lane on Baxter Road, to connect with Ditty Road. The plans also include tearing down the bridges at Exit 280 and creating new ones with three lanes and a turning lane underneath.
T-DOT had initially planned to begin the project in 2023, but has since seen delays. Holmes said he does not expect the project to start anytime soon.
