White County will use some $250,000 in Three Star Grant money to build a new pavilion at the David Culley Recreational Complex.
White County Three-Star Grant coordinator Brooke Luna said the 28×24-foot ADA accessible pavilion will be constructed near the baseball fields and will include ADA sidewalks, ADA restrooms, and electrical access. Luna said the county pursued a pavilion after the community survey results showed people wanted a space for community events.
“Once we get this built and this project is complete, we are gonna have that as a place for people to go and enjoy, you know, being outdoors, or having a birthday party for a child outside, or whoever,” Luna said. “And then having that electrical access, I think, is gonna be huge.”
Luna said the new disc golf course has been popular; however, many reviews have stated that the complex’s amenities could be better. Luna said the pavilion is a way the county can support year-round sports.
“In the winter months, those bathrooms that’s at the football fields and the baseball fields, those are not accessible,” Luna said. “So having that is gonna really help those ratings for the new disc golf course.”
Luna said the county is hoping to have the pavilion built within the next one to three years.
“Definitely hoping it doesn’t take three years,” Luna said. “But that is our goal, our goal is the one to three-year timeline. But hopefully sooner rather than later, because we are really excited about this pavilion.”
Luna said the $250,000 is the largest amount that the Three Star Grant has ever awarded.
