Some Crossville City Council frustrated after learning the Fire Station Two project running behind schedule.
The contractor had asked for 41 weather days to extend the project completion date. Council Member Mark Fox said he does not agree with weather as a reason for the project being behind schedule.
“I personally have driven by the site nine different days, beautiful days, and nobody on site,” Fox said. “And this was before the subs, the electrical HVAC started, so that’s been some time ago. But there was no one on site for nine days that I just don’t buy.”
Upland Design Group Senior Project Manager Rodgers Spencer said if the 41 weather days were added to the contract time, the completion date would go from the end of 2025 to June 19 of 2026. Spencer said he told the contractor that the date would not work.
“The revised schedule he submitted to myself and to Tim (City Engineer Tim Begley), he was actually looking to complete four days late,” Spencer said. “But I talked to him today on the way over here, and he says we’ll beat the 19th. I said I want it done before January.”
Spencer said the contractor will try his hardest to get the project completed as soon as possible.
“He sent an email out to include myself and Bryan, to all of his workers and to all of his subcontractors saying, ‘Guys, get ready, we are gonna start working hard and heavy on this project, and if we are late, then it’s $500 per day, you’ll be charged,'” Spencer said. “So he has already told the subcontractors what’s gonna happen.”
Spencer said he will reach out to the contractor to see if he can get the council more clarification on the delays. Spencer said he will return to the council in October to provide another update on the project.
