The Putnam County School System has nearly completed its move into the old Frontiers Communication Building located on Cookeville’s South Franklin Ave.
The building was purchased by the school system and underwent an extensive renovation to house various types of personnel. Putnam County Director of Schools Corby King said the school system’s academic coaches, some administrative school staff, student services, and several coordinators are housed in the building. King said the building has become a second central office.
“That place is hoppin,” King said. “It’s full. We got a lot of folks there, but it’s nice having everyone under one roof, where they work really well together. They can just walk across the hall rather than having to drive to another office somewhere to meet and work on things that are important for our students.”
King said before the move, staff were scattered across several schools in the Cookeville and Algood area. King said not only are staff now under one roof, but they also have adequate space for personnel.
“It’s a more comfortable space for them as well, a little more room, they are not just kind of in a closet somewhere,” King said. “They are not having to scrounge for a meeting space. There are a couple of conference tables and meeting spaces in that building, so that’s been a real plus for us. And the people who are out there really appreciate having the extra space and the ability ot work together.”
King said though the move is nearly complete, there is still more work to do.
“We are still working to get the HVAC system replaced in that building,” King said. “I think that’s the last thing that’s remaining. Before folks moved in, we put new floor tiles, new paint in the area. Got all of the furniture and things moved out there.”
