Crossville Receive Grant To Build Inclusive Playground

The city of Crossville has received an estimated $359,000 grant to build a new all-inclusive playground at Centennial Park.

City Manager Valerie Hale said the playground will be a 57X55 foot playground and will feature new slides, swings, and will also include ADA-compliant walkways and parking spaces.

“The city pursued it to provide play opportunities for all children, regardless of disabilities or special needs,” Hale said. “The mayor was very passionate about this project and felt like it was needed.”

The playground will be constructed in the area where the horseshoe pits were located. Hale said the city expects construction to begin in the Spring of 2026.

“Well, right now it is in the engineering phase, so that will take a few months,” Hale said. “Probably be up at the first of the year once it gets started.”

The city had outlined a need for a new playground at Centennial Park in its 2023 System-Wide Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Hale said she believes the playground will be quite popular.

“It will get a lot of use and will be a great asset to our community,” Hale said.

The grant requires the city to provide a 50/50 match. According to the project presentation, once the engineering phase is complete, the project will be sent out for bid.

The grant comes from the Tennessee Department of Conservation Office of Outdoor Recreation.
