Van Buren’s Mills Looks to Return Eaglettes to State Championship

Van Buren forward Cara Mills has one goal on her mind next season.

Mills comes off a state championship appearance in Murfreesboro last season. She averaged almost 20 points and 10 rebounds per game during the state tournament. Mills said she expects Van Buren to play their best this season.

“Obviously I played against some of the best in the state so, and we won so I should be able to play against about anybody,” Mills said. “Just remembering that we got that far in state and we can all play against the best, like we need to dominate throughout the season.”

Cara Mills enters her senior year at Van Buren. She returns to the team alongside the entire starting unit for the Eaglettes. Mills said it has been an amazing last couple of months.

“It’s been so fun,” Mills said. “It’s like nonstop just being with the team and just like growing together. We never had time off and that was the best thing for us.”

Mills said the community has also come together during this time.

“Basketball is our main sport in Van Buren,” Mills said. “Everyone supports basketball a lot so the community is always there for us.”

Cara Mills has played basketball as long as she can remember. She started her basketball career at youth associations and with family. Mills said it was important for her to always have a basketball in her hand.

Van Buren looks to head back to the state tournament for the fourth time in five seasons. Their state championship appearance last season was the first in school history.
