The White County School Board has begun a series of monthly meetings to update the school district’s strategic plan.
White County Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger said every school district in Tennessee has a strategic plan in place, usually for the next three-five years. Dronebarger said the school board is making a concerted effort to review and update the current strategic plan.
“Looking at data, looking at things, surveying the community, getting information and feedback that they can put into that plan to really move our district forward, and to create a plan that even after this board and this director are long gone, that this county will be proud of and a road map that they can follow,” Dronebarger said.
Dronebarger said the school board will have strategic planning meetings on Mondays of each week a school board meeting is scheduled. Dronebarger said the board is working on a survey to gauge community feedback before changing the strategic plan.
“We certainly want the community that supports it with tax dollars to have a say in what goes on,” Dronebarger said. “Also, the parents, and even the students that go to our schools, we want to take some input from them as well. We will get their perspectives and share, and then, like I said, we are gonna try and put it in a way that we can organize that information and make it workable for us, and then put it into a plan that we can use moving forward.”
When asked what types of things the community could provide feedback on, Dronebarger said it could be feedback on pretty much anything.
“We will be looking at all kinds of things like the school day itself,” Dronebarger said. “Theres things legislatively that are coming out, maybe given schools opportunities to look at a four day school week or a tleast being able to manipulate the minutes throughout the week and how they use those. Funding obviously, how the money and how the dollars are spent and where it should go.where we should allocate more resources or less. You know, athletic opportunities, athletic facilities and the list goes on and on.”
Dronebarger said the board is hopeful to have a new strategic plan formed by December, but that timeline is subject to change.
