Fairfield Glade Hosts Putt’n With The Police, Public Invited

The community can Putt with the Police of Fairfield Glade this week, a way to introduce officers to the public.

Fairfield Glade Chief of Police Kate Self said the idea came from the national Coffee with a Cop program. Self said this is an opportunity for people to ask officers questions and voice their concerns in a safe, inviting environment.

“We want to ensure that our community knows we are just like them,” Self said. “We are people, and we have families and lives too. And even though we might experience during a bad time in their life, we are inviting and we’re to help the community.”

Self said it is important for the police to have positive interactions with the community since most people only see negative events involving them in the media. Self said the event is a way to shine light on officers and their commitment to defend their community.

Putt’n With the Police will be held Thursday from 11am to 1pm at the Quarry at Druid Hills.

Self said she hopes that people who attend will be able to meet with all of the officers and get to know them as people. She said a golf course is a great place for an event like this.

“Golfing is a big thing in our community,” Self said. “But putting is something essentially anyone can do. So we want it to be friendly for anyone of all ages.”

Self said Putt’n with the Police is an opportunity to raise money for the Tennessee Alzheimer’s Walk, which she said is near and dear to the Fairfield Glade Community.

“Our community suffers from dementia and other ailments that deal with aging due to our demographic,” Self said. “So this is one organization that we try to raise money for every year.”

Self said the course will have an Alzheimer’s hole, where participants can pay $5 for a small gift raffle ticket. If golfers get a hole in one there, they are eligible for another raffle entry for various raffles going on. Self said donations will also be accepted.

Self said people who come will be provided putters and balls for those who do not have them, but she challenges people to break out their best putter if they have one. The officers will be playing with the public. Self said people may also enter in the leader board contest, where the three lowest scores will win raffle entries.
